45 lolita questions
Jul. 3rd, 2022 05:02 pm1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
Back when I first started being active in the online comm I used to go by Kanapaloo, Kanapalooza or Kanapalu. Now, I've reset all my accounts as frantic.frills or frantic_frills. The name speaks for itself this time lol
2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
I started in 2011, but there have been some twists and turns to my online journey as a lolita. I was active until 2012, then took a break, rekindled my passion in 2014 but kept it to myself until 2020. Finally, I went back online full force after the panini.
3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I liked myself more when wearing the fashion and I enjoyed the community aspect of it.
4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Not really. Even if getting actual lolita pieces was crazy hard, I still managed to get me some Bodyline and start being ita right away haha.
5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
Mostly classic with a heavy old school tendency. Sometimes gothic, very seldomly sweet.
6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
I think I have 5? Depends if I count ex-lolitas in the bunch.
7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
The sass, the class and the poofy a$$.
8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
Could just paste my previous answer lmao. The worst thing is taking it too seriously.
9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
I like all the OG ones, minus Victorian Maiden. They can take a walk with their unshirred bodices.
10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
A Bodyline skirt, Lovely Maiden Nadia.
11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
Headdresses. I think you can do lolita with many off-brand and vintage pieces of clothing, but headdresses-- you cannot find them in the normie world and no matter how flamboyant your coord is, if your head is bare I struggle to count it as lolita.
12. Do you wear drawers?
Idk if the author meant actual literal drawers or lolita underwear such as bloomers, but anyway I wear both.
13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
Oh gee, I do. I started going down the J-rock pipeline in 2010 with Shikao Suga, Dir en Grey and Moon Kana. Then, dug deeper with Malice Mizer, SHAZNA and Kaya. After exhausting my v-kei need, I moved to J-pop with Ayumi Hamasaki, AKB48 and Maaya Sakamoto. I still listen to most of them to this day.
14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
When I'm by my lonesome, I mostly run errands in lolita. If I'm having a meeting with fellow lolitas, it's the regular-degular: cafe's, bakeries, museums, parks.
15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
When I have access to my wardrobe, once a week. Unfortunately not being fully moved out of my parents house means I spend long periods of time away from my lacy lovelies.
16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were just beginning Lolita.
I got asked if I was a paid performer promoting the local drag night hehe. It felt awkward back then, but now it just sounds silly.
17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
I've seen bald lolitas doing the fashion better than I ever would. I don't think there's a specific cut and/or color for it.
18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
Mostly my ever-changing body and weight fluctuations. It sucks barely fitting your clothes and having to carefully plan what fits at what point in my life.
19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
I struggle to understand this Q so I'll just assume it's about the item I think fits the lolita-verse the most. For me, it's J-music CDs. There's no sweeter heaven than wearing lolita while listening to J-music for the point in time your outfit was designed.
20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
I do, but I also have a troubled relationship with dolls. I've been told to hate them for so long, I'm alienated from them. But I'm also drawn to dolls and I hoard them in my closet. I never take any of them out of their cardboard box and it's a sham I hardly know how to fix.
21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
No make-up. I know it's wrong. To some people is even gross, but honestly l_ck my a__h_le from the back, I like how I look without it in lolita lol.
22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
I have, not a great look but sometimes you've got adult chores following up a meetup and you gotta pull up you big girl pants literally.
23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
No haha I usually cuss a lot if I have wardrobe malfunctions or my nails poke a hole in my sock or my hair glues to my forehead. I see it as a sign I'm letting loose and enjoying the moment.
24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
It's hard to tell since I go on occasional buying sprees. Sometimes I net hundreds of euros in lolita for the month, usually after purchasing a brand new main piece. Sometimes I keep it to 0 for 6-8 months.
25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
All in all being European I have to count customs as part of the final price of a dress. I'd say Moitié Cross OP was both the most expensive lolita dress and the heftiest customs fee I've ever paid. Deadly combo, I don't like to reminisce this haha
26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
So you REALLY want me to go there huh? Being in the fashion for more than 10 years and having bought and sold many pieces, it's hard to review what I paid and what I earned from selling. Eyeballing the size of my wardrobe atm and the amount of brand new items, I'd say each piece is worth 120 euros on average (with a couple of top brand dresses skewing that amount). I currently own 40-ish dresses, 20-ish blouses and a dozen skirts, plus headdresses and outerwear so err... You've all the numbers, you do the math, I won't :)
27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of Lolita?
I don't raise money as much as I earn it. I work, I do freelancing on the side and I literally do not enjoy earthly pleasures. I save on wine and dine, vacations, knick knacks. I don't buy fast fashion or normie fashion for that matter. I'm my own handyman, I fix most of the stuff that breaks and I get the most out of my devices. Typing this from a 2006 burned-out laptop, not that glamorous ha?
28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.
I don't know any lolita who hasn't bought from an online store, or consciously chooses not to lol. But anyway, I've bought from any and all websites, mostly from Japan. I won't even name them all because I don't want to expose my sources haha
29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us about a private manufacturer that is the best.
Oh that I can tell you: Excentrique and old days Innocent World are the best.
30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Yes. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
I'll interpret "cosplay" as an encapsulator for cons, events and anime-related gatherings. Good for them! You don't have to be a lifestyler to enjoy the fashion.
32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
Never graduate BUT I do have to say that I'm a bet iffy about kids doing lolita. It's a very complicated fashion that can be simplified for children, but at that point stops being lolita and starts being a fun colorful costume for playtime.
33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
I hate many things many people do and say but none comes to mind strictly related to lolita.
34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
Lolita has to be personal. If you're recreating brand photoshoots it's just boring.

People is violently inclusive. I'll elaborate on it more another time.
36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
I work and I study in uni.
37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
Nope, could never. I like to keep it as a hobby and I enjoy it with likeminded people.
38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)
At the moment I do and yes, he does, but I would never include him in my lolita outings. I don't thin it's necessary to.
39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
Not many know. The few who do know are ok with it.
40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
I feel awkward saying their names because they're not celebrities, but a bunch of people really changed my perspective on the fashion.
Voyeurism.s, Dollsmeat, Josine Maaike, Corneille Couture, Pure Rae and Lace Decay are the first who come to mind, for various different reasons.
41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
I have two left hands.
